Zhouk Design is a new endeavour by Hallie Magrini in Seattle, WA.
The name Zhouk was happened upon one night while drinking red wine, joking around and (suedo) learning a little bit of the Russian language from my friend Julia. The spelling is my interpretation of this word: жук (pronounced: žuk) meaning beetle (or bug she told me). This same night we were fantasizing about one day owning our own shop and making designer clothing and accessories. Put the two ingenious ideas together and voila, we have the name for our future store. This was during the summer of 2007. Who would have known that a little over a year and a half later, after a move from Chicago to Seattle with my husband, Erik (Tarekith.com), a new black lab puppy, named Link, making new friends and going through lots of career changes (a new job, looking for new jobs, a layoff, another new job), my anxiety to get Zhouk going finally happened. I’m starting this venture on my own (Julia is too busy with work and finishing up her MBA) with the hopes she will still join me some day soon. I don’t sew clothes very well, so most of my designs will be bags, maybe some other fun projects will follow, and eventually paper goods.
